Brisbane being the capital city of Queensland and mid-way between 2 of the major resort/tourist areas of the South-East is the ideal starting point to organize the 1st Queensland International Digital Salon 20014 [QIDC]. Mount Gravatt Photographic Society [MGPS] was formed on the 13th February 1967 by a group of keen Southside photographers. The club has experienced continual growth to the present total of 130 financial members. There is possibly more lady members than gents and the average age would be about 50yrs of age.  The club caters from the new beginners to the more advanced, accordingly there is grades that suit every level of experience, monthly competitions are held in all grades in prints and digital; B grade for the raw beginner, those who have just obtained their first camera and learning how to use it, AB grade is for the members who are just starting to understand some of the mysteries of photography eg. composition, what to look out for, how to capture the quality of light, time of day etc and should be starting to enter images outside of the club., A grade is for the more advanced, by now you are entering into Nationals and Internationals. The club also runs the annual photographic section of the local Mount Gravatt Show. Over the years MGPS has become affiliated with the Photographic Society of Queensland [PSQ], enters into several Internationals, as a club and other comps organized through PSQ.

There are other common interest groups aimed at promoting interest in various area eg, The Mono Group where the art of actually processing [wet] and developing film is demonstrated and is proving very popular and this then flows onto the mono Digital. There is the Beginners group where you are advised how to get the most out of the club, preparing your entries for prints and digital, uploading, what the club would like to see you do to assist in the smooth running and it’s a forum where you can ask any thing that you are not sure on. The International Group has really expanded over the years and is called the AIGE [Australian International Group of exhibitors] and is a common interest group aligned with PSQ. Outings are frequently held to various activities that take place in and around Brisbane, can be overnight or weekend outings to different areas.

Within the club there are 7 members who are currently on the PSQ judges list and is available to assist in judging at any of the other areas as required including National comps and comps within Qld.
